Due to mild success from their previous album, Kyuss had been promoted from their subsidiary record label. Kyuss’ Welcome to Sky Valley was the eye opening album that introduced me to stoner rock, and as such, will always hold a special place in my heart, although many favour its predecessor, Blues for the Red Sun.The album simultaneously demonstrates both of the aspects of stoner rock that I love, with oppressively crushing, fuzzy, riffs like opener Gardenia’s ferocious introduction, featuring.

An essential stoner rock album. This albums crosses over barriers and welcomes music fans of different tastes to discover the genre. Welcome to Sky Valley is Kyuss's Magnum Opus and deserves a spot on every 90's Top 100 list. Now, onto the pressing. Like others have said it is VERY quiet. I'm not hearing a lot of noise, though as others have reported. I was able to find it new for $20. I opened up the shrinkwrap and gave it a good cleaning before play.
The mix is quite flat, but not too much more than I ever remembered. It sounds decent on my system. With my receiver's EQ flat the bass on this record is nice and smooth. Not overpowering. In my opinion it sounds just as it should. I still wish it was a louder pressing.
My advice for anyone considering this pressing is to buy it sealed in mint condition. Any defect on this record will potentially ruin the experience since it is so quiet. And if you are hearing distortion at the end of either side, you may want to check your cartridge alignment to minimize it. I hope to see a remaster of this album eventually.
On 2 LPs at 45 rpm. I'll keep dreaming. Hey, I'm just glad I finally got to own this album without shelling out big money. Agree with what everyone else said, this remastering is total shit. The volume is way to low for you to hear the distinct tones of every instrument.
Takes away a lot from the overall experience as one of the strongest points of Kyuss was their immersive sound as a unit. This recording does a lot of unjustice to Homme's guitar too, taking away a lot of the dynamics. I played this record expecting the wall of fuzz in 'Gardenia' to shake the foundations of my home. Sadly i was dissappointed. In all reality though, the record was pretty cheap (25 CAD).IMO save up for a better version. Mine is very noisy too, with a very noticeable clicking sound near the end of side A.This is made worse by the fact that the pressing is so quiet.I was really hoping to shake the walls with this one, but the mastering is flat and I simply can't turn it up loud enough to really rock as the surface noise is too distracting.Even after a thorough clean it sounds bad. I have a copy on audio cassette that I recorded from the CD when it was released which sounds better.Such a disappointment.
Will be looking for an original pressing.
